What's the need of activity centers?

Within the confines of our nuclear households, more & more children are getting drawn into the fantastically attractive but extremely unhealthy world of screens.

Expensive memberships of various top early development apps & difficulty in sourcing all the required material.

Scarcity of time, availability of helping hands for performing the activities, as well as safe infrastructure.

Why

Evolution suggests that babies/ kids crave rapid learning as an instinct to survive & thrive. They not only have the capability but also an innate desire to learn rapidly in their early years. Your baby’s brain is a supercomputer under development.

Within that tiny head there lies a universe of neurons waiting to connect, grow & weave the fabric of consciousness, intelligence, emotions & skills.

Founder's Desk

As a mother of a preschooler ever since his birth, I have always felt the scarcity of ideal child friendly public/private places even in a city like Mumbai. Children’s outings are limited largely to places that trap our kids in a cycle of instant gratification and consumption from a very young age. In Alibaug we of course have some nice beaches, and gardens. But the rainy season & also heat waves in summer make it difficult to take younger kids for outings.

I wished to give full justice to my job of motherhood & left the corporate one. Wished to thoroughly utilize the first five crucial years of my son’s life in terms of optimal nutrition, brain boosting & bonding activities.

Problems I faced were unavailability of kids of his age in our area for playdates, scarcity of helping hands in getting the activities done from him particularly when he was very small, impracticality of buying so many expensive memberships of major developmental apps as well as sourcing various materials required just for a single child.

How time flies! Can’t believe, this super fun roller coaster ride is about to come to an end. It was definitely a mutual learning, enriching, fulfilling experience! I would love to experience that magic over & over again! And I believe when you thoroughly enjoy any particular job, you can give full justice to it. With FirstFye I hope & wish to do the same!

FAQ | Frequently Asked Questions

Have a Questions

  • Babies are born with billions of largely unconnected neurons.
  • Immediately after birth these neurons rapidly start forming connections called synapses.
  • The strength & durability of these brain connections are largely dependent on the baby’s environment & early exposures.
  • At around age 2, the brain starts eliminating connections that are weak or redundant via process of synaptic pruning.
  • The stronger the connections the greater the chance that those will survive into adulthood.
  • Its almost as if the brain is pruning out talents & skills that the child did not develop fast enough in their life.
  • Babies & toddlers undergo critical periods of development where their brain is primed for growth & skill acquisition.
  • There are small windows of opportunities provided by the brain in the early years, which once lost will never be available again.
  • It is important to feed your child with the right stimulation, activities & opportunities in these windows to develop lifelong skills & talent.
  • The brain’s message is simple: “Use it, or lose it”.
  • Brain prioritizes & retains talents that are nurtured in the early years.
  • If they are not, it discards those with the process called,”synaptic pruning”.
  • The UN along with governments worldwide, recognise new research on early learning & are actively prioritising it. Including the Govt. of India in its Education Policy (NEP 2020).

  • To combat screen addiction
  • To instil values like empathy & listening skills
  • Handicraft activities encourage children to create simple yet beautiful objects that combine aesthetics with functionality. This promotes their creativity, patience & problem-solving skills.
  • Clay modelling & pottery allow children to express their creativity in 3D forms. These hands-on activities are great sensorial experiences that enhance their focus & self-esteem.

As a parent, if you have time for quality interaction with your child, trusted helping hands around you, you are able to keep your child away from screen addiction, then no activity center can match the profound effect this ideal home atmosphere will have on the crucial years of your child.

But as we can see, with time the actual scenario is deviating in various degrees

  • CCTV surveillance, assurance of utmost safety measures.
  • We aim to address children’s addiction to screens in order to fill the void due to a lack of the right kind of engagement.
  • We foster children’s natural propensity to learn through play & discovery.
  • Work in support of the child’s natural faith in the world to be an interesting & beautiful place to be in.
  • Nurture their imagination & natural creativity.
  • Help them relax without a sense of compulsion, fear or competition
  • Develop their will to work, create & concentrate.
  • Nurture & protect their senses.
  • Develop their confidence, independence, and persistence.
  • Enable their self-expression
  • Encourage children to get connected with nature in various interesting ways.
  • We slow down in our work of teaching, to hear their voices & respect their thinking.
  • We encourage critical & analytical thinking, help unfolding of child’s natural powers through messy play, self-directed play, gross & fine motor activities.
  • Music therapy; use of various music instruments.
  • Various calming activities including kids’ yoga, meditation, shloka recitation
  • Use of various conventional, non-conventional materials for sensory activities to let them explore a variety of textures as well as feelings associated with those.
  • Outdoor activities. Lawn & mud sensory activities for infants. Garden & Beach activities for toddlers.

  • Off course, its good to get the kids habitual to elder's meals as early as possible. but it’s crucial that nutrition isn’t compromised in the transition period. In this situation nutrition filled mid meals can come to our rescue.
  • No matter how careful we remain about what goes in the tiny tummies, with over-exposure to ads, unthoughtful gifts from the visitors, coupled with the kid’s natural sweet tooth, it doesn’t take long for them to get addicted to sugar laden treats.
  • Though sometimes we do make nutrition filled evening snacks for them, with scarcity of time, in majority of cases we end up giving them the same tea time snacks as ours, like white flour biscuits or deep fried savoury snacks.

Off course, simple traditional kiddie snacks are the best for our kids but the fact is with over-exposure to various ads, today’s kids do crave fancy snacks more. Thus, we thought, why Not to make the fancy ones healthier too? so that the parents can have better options along with good old traditional snacks.
